Get Rid of Dead Weight

Confession, I love to carry big purses, especially when my outfit and shoes coordinate with my bag. However, my every day bag is plain and heavy. I will throw items in there that I need for the place I'm going but forget to take them out when I get home. Eventually those items add up and make my purse unbearably heavy. I then clean out my bag and discover items I forgot about. My bag also feels lighter because I was carrying around unnecessary items.

No more heavy bags
No more heavy bags

Carrying around extra baggage spiritually can make your soul feel heavy. It's an emotional burden that seems unshakable. If you are a little snappy toward people or a little less inpatient about things that you're normally patient about, your spirit might be carrying something it isn't supposed to be carrying.

This happens when things accumulate in our spirit over time. It seems like bad news after bad news keeps coming your way. You pray and give it to God. You get clarity over the situation but the spiritual effect is still there. The bad mood and the complaining lingers because it's been put in your spiritual bag. You forgot to take it out when you prayed. You forgot to leave it home, at Jesus' feet.

God says "Come to me ALL you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." Matthew 11:28 NKJV

The word "laden" means weighed down. Many people think this scripture is only talking about physical rest. But God is also talking about spiritual rest. Anything that is weighing us down He wants us to give it to Him. He will give us rest in our minds which is peace.

I pray that whatever it is that is weighing you down today that you give it to God. I literally tell God in my prayer time, "Here you go God, takes these burdens from me." I then begin to thank Him for everything. I then feel a lot lighter, and am reminded God is in control.

I encourage you all to do the same. We need God's peace every minute, especially during these uncertain things happening in the world.

I pray God's peace fills everyone reading this and all of the dead weight is removed. In Jesus name. Amen.
